With the huge success and interest of the #foamie #edf flying wing i cobbled together, i decided to offer them out to #BMFC members, the response has been amazing, so i redesigned a prop powered version with the intention of it having the ability to #ribboncut, (for those not familiar with this, in basic terms, 2 planes have a crape ribbon attached so that it trails behind the plane by a couple of meters or so, the idea that both planes try to cut off each others ribbon and thus win). The design task was simple, “create a model plane that will fly well and easily, be robust and have a propeller. it also needs to be relatively cheap and thus disposable”. the budget was set for each plane and a simple #flyingwing (V Shape) design with a prop up front and a single vertical stabiliser at the centre back. the material is a #depron type foam with a thin paper/card coating, wood spars used to form the wing profile and centre brace, a centre box is shaped to fit in the top wing and would form the #fusalarge and mount the vertical stabiliser. control is via #elevons.
Testing of the first iteration was a great success, the model fly’s really well with a low stall rate, but will also spin on its axis at a very hight rate when set to do so, the original #EDF version proved the strength to bee excellent and its had several nose first crashes into the ground and survived quite well, with the nature of the construction material repair is also very easy and quick.
