The RYZE Tello mini drone is an excellent introduction to the world of Drones, or even just a small form to fly indoors. Tello uses an app on your smart phone for control, there is NO GPS on Tello, but there are inferred sensors for height control and a VPS (Visual Positioning System) at the bottom to aid in stable flight and hover. There are NO obstacle detection sensors on Tello, While the official app is ok there is a more advance app called Tello FPV by Volate!lo, this app costs around £5 and has many more features than the basic app including a “Return to Home” option. During testing we found Tello to be responsive and fun to fly, the build quality is excellent and its quite robust, the video however is not so good, mainly because of the poor signal that you tend to get whilst using in the home or office, we also used a “MI” WiFi extender that was a bit of a head scratcher during set up, whilst this does help with WiFi signal it still susceptible to interference in the home environment. The batteries take about an hour to charge and it would be a good idea to acquire at least one other battery and an external charger, as normal charging is done in the drone. An additional Bluetooth remote control is available to buy, but honestly, we prefer the app for control. Overall we love this little Drone for a bit of crap weather indoor fun, it also flies well out side but it does not realistically handle anything more than a breeze. We dont think flying indoors in an FPV mode works due to all the interference, and it can be tricky to get a good picture or video without artefacts , but away form other networks and magnetic fields and this little fella is great fun. There is also the added ability to program the Tello using the Scratch program.

Whether you’re at a park, in the office, or hanging out at home, Tello has two antennas that make video transmission extra stable and a high-capacity battery that offers impressively long flights times.

Capture Great Pictures and Videos

Unfortunately there is no onboard memory on Tello, this means that the quality of the image recorded on your smart phone is entirely dependant on the quality of WiFi signal.
