Nitro Choppa!

Nitro Choppa!

Its been some time since we had an RC #helicopter in the air so we thought we would give it another go with a couple of Hirobo Shuttles. it didn’t take too long to remember why we quit flying them all those years ago.

Whilst we would recommend anyone interested in model aircraft flying to have a go with a helicopter, we would also warn that it is costly and frustrating to learn. a very curate analogy once given to me was “trying to fly a model helicopter is like trying to balance a marble on a tin tray” Having gotten to the level years previously of flying an Align T-Rex 500 inverted (at height i might add) it became very apparent that all that skill had long since flown away like one of my foamy duckted fan jets did one day. Yep, it was almost like i had never put a model wherly bird in the air before, even after trying to fly the little electric 450 size chopper, it was so nerve racking and seemingly impossible to fly one of these large, noisy, smelly things again. the problem is the cost, unless you have a bottomless pot of cash to spend on a hobby, its always in the back of your mind, something as simple as a heavyish landing can see a set of main rotor blades and a boom replacement at the least, on this size chopper this could cost upwards of £100 a time. These days you can add all sorts of electronic aids to keep the machine flying level and straight, but its not what i would consider real flying, using your instinct and skill to complete a flight and land in one piece in my mind is what its all about.
